    -3d / (d^2-2d-8) + 3 / (d-4) = - 2 / (d+2)

    factor

    -3d / (d-4) (d+2) + 3 / (d-4) = - 2 / (d+2)

    multiply by (d-4) (d+2) on each side

    (d-4) (d+2) [-3d / (d-4) (d+2) + 3 / (d-4) ] = (-2 / (d+2)) * (d-4) (d+2)

    distribute

    -3d + 3 (d+2) = - 2 (d-4)

    distribute

    -3d + 3d+6 = - 2d+8

    combine like terms

    6 = - 2d+8

    subtract 8 to each side

    -2 = - 2d

    divide by - 2

    1 = d
