A recipe for muffins calls for 1/2 quart of buttermilk, 1/3 quart of skim milk, and 1/16 quart of oil. How many total quarts of liquid ingredients does the recipe call for?

    You have to change all of the fractions into fractions with the same denominator. The closest is 48. 1/16 will turn into 3/48, 1/3 will turn into 16/48, and 1/2 will turn into 24/48. When you add it all up, you get 43/48 as your answer
