Which of the following statements have the same result? Explain each step in solving each one.

f (1) when f (x) = 5x + 1

    f (1) = 5 * 1 + 1 = 5 + 1 = 6

    f (x) = (2 x + 3) / 5 (we have to find an inverse function)

    y = (2 x + 3) / 5

    5 y = 2 x + 3

    2 x = 5 y - 3

    x = (5 y - 3) / 2

    f^ (-1) (x) = (5 x - 3) / 2

    f^ (-1) (3) = (15 - 3) / 2 = 12 / 2 = 6

    3 y - 7 = y + 5

    3 y - y = 5 + 7

    2 y = 12

    y = 6
