    if x = the number of nickles and x-34 = the number of dimes then. 05x +.10 (x-34) = 4.85 or. 15x = 8.25 x = 55

    So, nickles = x = 55

    dimes = (x-34) = 21

    55 + 21 = 76 So, that means your answer is C. 76 coins

    the correct answer is C

    Step-by-step explanation:

    Set the 34 more nickels aside.

    --> pairs of 1 nickel & 1 dime each worth 15 cents & a total of $3.15 ($4.85 - $1.70)

    315/15 = 21 pairs

    --> 21 dimes and 55 nickels
