Why do you flip the inequality sign when dividing by a negative number?

    Assume x is 100.

    -x<1

    -100 is smaller than 1.

    Dividing by - 1,

    x>-1

    100 is greater than - 1

    If the inequality is not changed,

    100<-1

    100 is less than - 1 which is not true
