    Assume side length of a square is: 2

    Area = L^2 = 2x2 = 4

    Increase that by 50% = 3x3 = 9

    9-4 = 5 increase. So ask: what percentage of 4 equals to 5:

    x/100 * 4 = 5

    0.04x=5

    x = 125

    Increase = 125%
