A telephone calling card allows for 25 cents per minute plus a one-time service charge of 75 cents. If the total cost of the card is $5.00, or 500 cents, solve 25m + 75 = 500 to find the number of minutes you can use the card

    500-75 = 425. then 25m=425. 425/25 is 17. so m=17
