A section of a railway has a slope of approximately 0.46. In this section, a vertical change of 1 unit corresponds to a horizontal change of what length? Round your answer to the nearest hundredth.

    The slope is the vertical change per 1 unit of horizontal change so:

    v = vert cahnge

    h = hor change

    slope = v / h

    .46 = 1 / h

    so solve that equation for h and that's your answer
