    Step-by-step explanation:

    For his birthday, Mr. Moore and three of his friends went to a movie. This means that they are 4 persons

    They each got a ticket for $7.00 and the same snack from the concession stand. This means that the total cost of the tickets would be 4 * 7 = $28

    If Mr. Moore's mom paid $42 for the group's tickets and snacks, it means that total cost of tickets + total cost of snacks = $42

    Let the cost of each snack be $x

    Since they are 4 persons and total cos of snacks and tickets is $42,

    Total cost of snack will be 4 * x =

    Total cost of ticket will be 4 * 7. So

    (4 * x) + (4 * 7) = 42

    Factorising 4, the expression becomes

    4 (x + 7) = 42

    Solving the equation,

    4x + 28 = 42

    4x = 42 - 28 = 14

    x = 14/4 = 3.5

    Each snack cost $3.5

    The 4 snacks cist $14
