    I find subtracting the percents is much easier, it gives you the answer quicker if 20% speak Spanish, then 80% speak English 1000 X. 80 = 800 students speak Spanish

    First, make the 20% a decimal, making it. 2 (move the decimal place two times to the right. Then multiply. 2 by 1000 to get the number of spanish speaking students, getting 200. Subtract 200 from 1000 to get english speaking students, making the answer to the question 800
