    Tim will finish first

Step-by-step explanation: calculate the rate at which each runner is moving

    35 minutes / 5 miles = 7 minutes per mile

    70 minutes / 7 miles = 10 minutes per mile

The 7 minute mile is faster because it means Tim is running a mile in 7 minutes, while Dan is running that same mile in 10 minutes, which is a whole 3 minutes slower, over the course of the race those extra minutes per mile would really add up

At their current paces, it would take Tim (26*7) or 182 minutes to finish while it would take Dan (26*10) 260 minutes to finish
