3x+y=6
x+y=2
rewrite x + y = 2 as y = 2-x
Replace Y in the first equation with the re-written equation:
3x + 2-x = 6
Solve for x:
3x + 2-x = 6
subtract x:
2x + 2 = 6
Subtract 2 from each side:
2x = 4
Divide both sides by 2:
x = 2
Now you have x, replace x with 2 in the second equation and solve for y:
x + y = 2
2 + y = 2
Subtract y 2 from each side:
y = 0
The answer is: X = 2, Y = 0
