    Add 4x to both sides

    -6=-10x+4x

    Simplify

    -6=-6x-

    Divide both sides by - 6

    1=x

    Switch sides.

    x=1

    -4x-6=-10x

    Combine like terms (put things that are the same together, ex.^ 2g+5g, 3at+5at, 1+1)

    So you need to get rid of the - 4x from the left by adding (positive) 4x and that cancels it out to 0.

    BUT you have to do the same to each side (both sides are treated the same) so you add (positive) 4x to - 10x and you end up with

    -6=-6x

    now you need to get x alone so you do the opposite of what is happening to the - 6 (it's being multiplied) so you divide both sides by - 6.

    Now it's 1=x
