    First we define variables.

    x = number of miles.

    y = total cost in $

    We write the equation that adapts to the problem:

    y = 2.08x + 4.50

    For y = 34.50 we have:

    34.50 = 2.08x + 4.50

    We clear x:

    x = (34.50-4.50) / (2.08)

    x = 14.4 miles

    Answer:

    You can travel from the airport by taxi for 34.50 about 14.4 miles.
