Kayak World charges $10 to rent a spray skirt all day plus $12.50 an hour to rent a kayak. BoatLand charges $5 to rent a spray skirt all day plus $15 an hour to rent a kayak. Write an equation to find h, the number of hours for which the total cost is the same at both rental places. Then solve the equation, and state what the cost is when it is the same

    Write an equation for each rental place to calculate total cost:

    Kayak World = 12.50h + 10

    Boat Land = 15h + 5

    Now set both equations equal to each other and solve for h:

    12.50h + 10 = 15h + 5

    Subtract 5 from each side:

    12.50 + 5 = 15h

    Subtract 12.50h from both sides:

    5 = 2.50h

    Divide both sides by 2.50:

    h = 5 / 2.5

    h = 2

    The cost will be the same for 2 hours.
