    Brendan has a total of 57 beads

    Solution:

    Let "a" be the number of red beads

    Let "b" be the number of yellow beads

    Let "c" be the number of green beads

    Given that,

    Number of red beads = 19

    a = 19

    He has 2 fewer yellow beads than red beads

    Number of yellow beads = number of red beads - 2

    b = a - 2

    b = 19 - 2

    b = 17

    Brendan also has 2 more green beads than red beads

    Number of green beads = 2 + number of red bead

    c = 2 + a

    c = 2 + 19

    c = 21

    How many beads does Brendan have in all?

    Total beads = a + b + c

    Total beads = 19 + 17 + 21 = 57

    Thus Brendan has 57 beads
