    Let L = length, W = width

    On the problem, W = L - 6

    The perimeter of a rectangle is 2*L + 2*W = P

    Given P = 68, so

    2*L + 2 * (L - 6) = 68

    2*L + 2*L - 12 = 68

    4L = 68 + 12

    4L = 80

    L = 20 inches

    W = 20 - 6 = 14 inches
