    Step-by-step explanation:

    Given:

Hot dogs come in packs of 12

Hot dog buns come in packs of 9.

The store does not sell parts of a pack.

Yadira's mom wants the same number of hot dogs as hot dog buns.

    Question asked:

What is the smallest total number of hot dogs that Yadira's mom can purchase?

    Solution:

As the store does not sell parts of a pack and Hot dogs come in packs of 12 and Hot dog buns come in packs of 9, we will have to calculate the minimum number of hot dogs as well as hot dog buns that Yadira's mom can purchase by using Lowest Common Multiple:-

    Yadira's mom can purchase hot dog (multiples of 12) - 12, 24, 36, 48, 60 ...

    Yadira's mom can purchase hot dog buns (multiples of 9) - 9, 18, 27, 36,45 ...

Thus, we found that she can purchase number of hot dogs = 12, 24, 36, 48 and so on ...

    And she can purchase number of hot dog buns = 9, 18, 27, 36, 45 ...

But here we have to calculate the smallest number of hot dogs that she can purchase and hence it is 36.
