A ship travels due west for 90 miles and turns to travel 80 miles in the northwest direction, at a 120° angle. How far is the ship from its original position?

    You can use the Cosine RUle to solve this

    x^2 = 90^2 + 80^2 - 2*80*90 cos 120 = 21700

    x = sqrt 21700 = 147.31 miles to nearest hundredth Answer
