Wind resistance is jointly proportional to velocity and surface area of the object. If an object is traveling 57 mph and has a surface area of 31 square feet it will experience a wind resistance of 397.575 Newtons. How fast must an object be moving to experience a wind resistance of 228.375 Newtons if it has a surface area of 35 square feet?

    Answer

    = 29 mph

    Explanation

    The first step is to calculate the constant of proportionality.

    R ∝ KVA

    R = KVA Where R is resistance, K is constant, V is velocity and A is surface area.

    397.575 = K * 57 * 31

    k = 397.575//1,767

    = 0.225

    The equation now is;

    R = 0.225VA

    228.375 = 0.225 * V * 35

    V = 228.375/7.875

    = 29 mph
