Rachel sells internet subscriptions by telephone. She receives 12% of the first $800 and 16% on the balance over $800. Last month, she sold $9,500 worth of internet access subscriptions. What was her commission for last month?

    1. 9,500-800

    2. multiply. 12 times 800

    Multiply. 16 times 8,700 (8,700 is 9,500-800)

    3. add the two numbers you got from multiplying and this will be the amount she earned.

    (9,500-800) * 0.16=1,392

    She earned=1,392+96=1,488
