If Gavin wants to live somewhere that it rains about 5 inches each month, the mean appears to match what he wants.

The problem is that the mean of 5 includes an outlier which is skewing the data so that it is higher than what actually represents tbe amount of rainfall.

The median is a better representation of the amount of rain that is actually falling per month. The median is closer to 4 inches, not 5.
