Mike is walking at 3 miles per hour, so in t hours he walks 3t miles.

Jamal is driving at 25 miles per hour, so in t hours he drives 25t miles.

They are 9 miles apart, so the sum of the distances they need to travel is 9 miles.

    so 3t + 25t = 9
