since we have to find the total distance we add both the distance

    1 2/5 + 2 3/10

    = 12/5 + 23/10

    = 12*2/5*2 + 23/10 (to make denominators same)

    = 24/10 + 23/10

    = 47/10 miles

    = 4 7/10 miles

    3 7/10 miles

    Step-by-step explanation:

To add fractions together you have to have the same denominator (the bottom number) you also have to make it an improper fraction. So let start with 1 2/5, we will add 5 to the top to make it an improper fraction, then times the bottom and top by 2 to have the same denominator as 2 3/10, you'll get 14/10. Now do the same to 2 3/10 > 23/10 you don't have to change the denominator because this is the number we need. We have the factions ready now 14/10 + 23/10 = 37/10 do not add the denominators together. Finally, we can convert it back to a mixed number. How many times can 10 go into 37? 3 times so 3 7/10 miles
