If the value of a negative number is 2.78, what is the distance on the number line between the number and its absolute value?

    It would be twice its value, because on the number line, it has to travel all the way back to zero, and then to its absolute value on the positive side.

    So, the distance between - 2.78 and its absolute value would be

    2.78x2 = 5.56
