The total number of hoagies sold can be figured out by working out the sum of the Italian hoagies and the roast beef hoagies.

    The sum is 42 + 53 = 95 total hoagies.

Now you just create a ratio of Italian hoagies to the total number of hoagies, which is:

    42:95 (Italian:Total)

the total Italian hoagies sold were 42

the total hoagies sold is 95 (you add the amount of Italian and beef hoagies together)

Therefore the ratio would turn out as: 42 to 95
