The managers of three different supermarkets in the US desire to test the effectiveness ofa new store design on sales. The manager of supermarket A decidesto let store directorschoose on their own whether they judge appropriate to implement the new design. The manager of supermarket B randomly chooses stores to assignthe new design. The manager of supermarket C randomly draws stores in each US Stateseparately. (a) State whether each of the three experimental designs is observational or experimental, providing an explanation.

(b) Which experimental design is implemented in each of the three studies? (c) Which kind of bias will arise from design A? Why?

(d) Compare the quality of statistical results from Designs B and C. State which of the two prevails on your opinion and why.

    (a) and (b) 1. experiment A is observational because the directors will choose on their own, meaning they have to observe from other places.

    2. Experiment B is experimental because it is at random and they will only learn from the outcome.

    3. Experiment C is also experimental because it is at random also.

    (c) Self selection Bias will arise because the directors will choose based on their feelings and other personal reasons.

    (d) on my own opinion design C will prevail because you will be having designs in almost all the states and you can conclude where best to implement the design.
