    189 tickets

    Step-by-step explanation:

    Given,

The ratio of child and adult tickets = 8: 1

Let, the number of child tickets = 8x and adult tickets = 1x

Where, x is any positive real number number,

Since, there are 147 more child tickets then adult tickets,

    ⇒ Child tickets = Adult tickets + 147

    ⇒ 8x = x + 147

    ⇒ 8x - x = 147

    ⇒ 7x = 147

    ⇒ x = 21

    Hence, the total number of tickets sold = 8x + x = 9x = 9 (21) = 189

This equation is surprisingly quite simple. Find how many child tickets are being sold by subtracting the amount of adult tickets. 8 - 1 = 7. Every time they sell a ticket, they sell 7 more child tickets. Now do 147 divided by 7 which is 21. 21 adults tickets were sold. Now add 147 to get 168. 168 is 147 more than 21. Now lastly add 168 and 21 to get 189. 189 tickets were sold.
