Suppose you are trying to decide between a sugar cone and a waffle cone. The sugar cone has a diameter of 2.5 inches and a height of 4.5 inches. The waffle cone is a bit bigger having a diameter of 3.5 inches and a height of 6 inches. By volume, how much more ice-cream inside the cone can the waffle cone hold then the sugar cone?

    Step-by-step explanation:

    The formula for the volume of a cone is expressed as

    Volume of cone = 1/3 * πr^2h

    Where

    h = vertical height of the cone

    r = radius of the cone

    π = constant which has a value of 3.14

    From the information given,

    The sugar cone has a diameter of 2.5 inches and a height of 4.5 inches.

    Radius = Diameter/2

    Radius of the sugar cone will be

    2.5/2 = 1.25 inches.

    Volume of the sugar cone

    = 1/3 * 3.14 * 1.25^2 * 4.5 = 7.36inces^3

    The waffle cone is a bit bigger having a diameter of 3.5 inches and a height of 6 inches.

    Radius of the waffle cone will be

    3.5/2 = 1.75 inches

    Volume of the waffle cone

    = 1/3 * 3.14 * 1.75^2 * 6 = 19.23 inches^3

    The volume of ice cream that the waffle cone will hold more than the sugar cone will be

    19.23 - 7.36 = 11.87 inches^3
