    Combine like terms as shown below

    x + 12 + 2x = 20 + 3x - 8

    Side one

    x + 2x = 3x

    Side two

    20 - 8 = 12

    Set the equation up again

    3x + 12 = 3x + 12

    The equation is the same on both sides which means that the equation cancels itself out.

    3x - 3x = 0 and 12 - 12 = 0

    0 = 0 so there is infinitely many solutions because both sides equal the same thing.
