    P = 2 (L + W) or P 2 (L) + 2 (W)

    P = 48

    L = 2W - 6

    48 = 2 (2W - 6 + W)

    48 = 2 (3W - 6)

    48 = 6W - 12

    48 + 12 = 6W

    60 = 6W

    60/6 = W

    10 = W

    L = 2W - 6

    L = 2 (10) - 6

    L = 20 - 6

    L = 14

    so the width (W) = 10 and the length (L) = 14
