8 - 3x - 12 = 2x
Simplify 8 - 3x - 12 to - 3x - 4
-3x - 4 = 2x
Add 3x to both sides
-4 = 2x + 3x
Simplify 2x + 3x to 5x
-4 = 5x
Divide both sides by 5
-4/5 = x
Switch sides
x = - 4/5
