    X=number of students

    9x+12x=630

    21x=630

    x=30

    so for high school, a, the 9 vans carried (9*30) 270 students while the 12 buses carried (12*30) = 360 students. check:270+360=630

    so for high school, b.

    1x+6x=252

    7x=252

    x = 36

    so the 1 van carries 36 students and the 6 buses carries (6*36) 216 students. check: 216+36=252
