    Let the width is x

    and the length is 3 + 3x

    and the perimeter is 2 (l+w) = 2 (x+3+3x) = 46

    solve for x:

    2 (4x+3) = 46

    4x+3=11.5

    4x=8.5

    x=2.125

    the width is 2.125 cm and the length is 9.375 cm
