    The surface area (SA) of the cylinder is the sum of its lateral area (LA) and twice the area of its base (BA)

    SA = LA + 2BA

    The lateral area is the circumference of the base times the height LA = πdh. The area of the base is the area of the circle, BA = πd²/4

    Substituting the given values to the equation,

    SA = π (8 yd) (7 yd) + 2 x (π) (8 yd) ²/4

    Thus, the surface area of the cylinder is 88π yd².
