Divide both sides of the ratio by 2. This keeps the new ratio proportional to the old ratio.
8 divided by 2 is 4
6 divided by 2 is 3
An equivalent ratio to 8:6 would be 4:3.

You need to divide them both by 2 so 8:6 is equivalent to 4:3
