The ratio of boys to girls in Janice's classroom is 3:5, and there are a total of 32 students in the class. Using complete sentences, explain how you could draw a tape diagram to represent this situation. In your answer, make sure to include what quantity each bar represents.

    When making a tape diagram to express this situation. First you would lay out the first bar that will represent the whole amount of the class (32 students). Next, you would lay out the second bar directly underneath the first bar, parallel to the first bar. The second bar will represent the different parts that compose the whole. So at a 3:5 boys to girls ratio, the girls portion of the bar will total 19 and the boys portion will equal 13.
