X^2 + 2x - 8 = x^2 + 4x - 2x - 8 = x (x + 4) - 2 (x + 4) = (x + 4) (x - 2);

x^3 - 16x = x (x^2 - 4^2) = x (x + 4) (x - 4);

the fraction is reduced from (x + 4) (x - 2) / x (x + 4) (x - 4) to (x - 2) / x (x - 4)

X^2 + 2x - 8 = (x + 4) (x - 2)

x^3 - 16x = x (x^2 - 16) = x (x + 4) (x - 4)

Therefore: (x - 2) / x (x - 4)
