At a college library exhibition of faculty publications, two mathematics books, four social science books, and four biology books will be displayed on a shelf. (Assume that none of the books are alike.)

(a) In how many ways can the ten books be arranged on the shelf?

    You have 10 books because 2+4+4=10 and without repetions and the order doenst matter, and you have to arrange all of them, you have a permutation of different elements = 10! = 10*9*8*7*6*5*4*3*2*1 = 3628800
