A city map has the scale 1 inch = 500 feet. If a map of the city limits is 36 inches (East to West) by 24 inches (North to South), how many miles long (5,280 feet = 1 mile) is a straight east - west road in this scale?

    Use of the scale: 36 in * 500 feet / in = 18,000 feet

    Conversion to miles: 18,000 feet * 1 mile / 5,280 in = 3.4 miles
