    The correct answer to this expression is y=9 if the equation is y-8+2=3 or y=19 if the equation is y-8 * 2=3.

    To get y=9 you need to add 2 to - 8 to get - 6, then you need to find the number that when subtracted by 6 equals 3 and that number is 9.

    To get y=19 you need to multiply - 8 by 2 to get - 16, then you need to find the number that when subtracted by 16 equals 3 and that number is 19.

    If it is neither of these answers then it is y-8 because you are replacing 2 with 3 in the expression.
