An automobile jack raises the car 1/2 of an inch for each stroke of the lever. How

many strokes of the lever are needed to lift the car 5 inches?

    1 inch is two 1/2's so it takes two strokes to lift the car 1 inch.

    2 strokes per inch x 5 inches = 10 total strokes.

    The answer is 10
