For the linear equation, x + y - 1 = 0, determine a corresponding value of y for the x-value of - 6.

    0
    x + y-1 = 0

    if x = 6

    replace x with 6 to get

    6 + y-1 = 0

    subtract 6 from each side

    y-1 = - 6

    add 1 to each side

    y = - 5
