Judy is now twice as old as Adam, but 6 years ago, she was 5 times as old as he was. How old is Judy now?

    Let Adam be x

    Let Judy be 2x

    their age 6 years ago would be their age now minus 6

    so adam is x-6 and judy is 2x-6

    it says that 5 years ago Judy was 5 times adams age. so that means 6 years ago judy was (x-6) * 5

    judys age 6 years ago was 2x-6

    so that means 2x-6 = (x-6) 5

    2x-6=5x-30

    2x+24=5x

    24=3x

    x=8

    so adam is 8.

    Then Judies age is 8*2 which is 16 years old.
