    Let x = width in

    Because the length is 5 in. more than the width, therefore

    length = (x + 5) in

    The perimeter is equal to twice the width plus twice the length. Therefore

    2x + 2 (x+5) = 26

    2x + 2x + 10 = 26

    4x + 10 = 26

    4x = 26 - 10 = 16

    x = 16/4 = 4

    The width is 4 in.

    The length is 4 + 5 = 9 in

    Answer:

    Width = 4 in

    Length = 9 in
