Your best bet may be to modify (convert) each number so that the denominator is the same (find the LCD and use it).

1/3, 1 and 1/4, 0.27,1.35 has two decimal fractions, and it should be obvious which one is greater than the other.

Generally, it's easier to convert a proper fraction to a decimal fraction than to do the opposite. Thus, convert 1/3 to a decimal fraction by division (use your calculator if need be) : 1/3 = 0.33333 (repeating decimal). Convert 1 1/4 to 1.25.

Now you have four numbers that are all in decimal fraction form: 0.33333, 1.25, 0.27, 1.35. Which of these four is the smallest? Right: 0.27. Next? 0.33333. Next? 1.25. Last? 1.35.
