Our solar system is 1.18 * 1013 meters in diameter, and the Milky Way galaxy is 7.8 * 1020 meters in diameter. How many times wider is the Milky Way galaxy than our solar system? Write your answer in scientific notation, and round the coefficient to the nearest tenth.

    Divide 7.8 by 1.18:

    7.8 / 1.18 = 6.61 = 6.6 rounded to the nearest tenth.

    When you divide scientific notation, subtract the exponents: 20 - 13 = 7

    The answer becomes 6.6 x 10^7
