    Assign a variable to the smallest integer: x

    Apply the relationship to the first integer to the second.

    For example: the second integer is 4 greater than the first integer.

    the second integer would = x+4

    Then what their sum/difference/quotient/etc. would be, put that into a formula.

    For example:

    One integer is greater than the other by four. Their sum is 16 and their product is 60. Find the value of the first integer.

    First integer: x

    Second integer: x+4

    Equation:

    x+x+4=16

    x=6

    Answers:

    First integer: 6

    Second integer: 10
