    1/2 (x + 12) = 4x - 1

    1/2x + 12/2 = 4x - 1

    1/2x + 6 = 4x - 1

    1/2x - 4x = - 1 - 6

    1/2x - 8/2x = - 7

    -7/2x = - 7

    x = - 14/-7

    x = 2
