    Solve for x in each

    5x+7>-8

    minus 7

    5x>-15

    divide both sides by 5

    x>-3

    3x+7≤19

    minus 7 both sides

    3x≤12

    divide 3

    x≤4

    we have

    x>-3 and x≤4

compound is any value that satisfys both

    x>-3 and x≤4

    -3
    -3 to 4, not including - 3, but including 4
